Buteyko is a physician developed Breathing Technique developed in the 1950's. It was originally evidenced in people with asthma where it was possible for many to reduce daily rescue medication by following the exercises as taught. It isn't a substitute for medical care but a complement to it and can often lead to a reduced need for medication and better overall asthma control. The technique is now recognised to have benefits in many other conditions where chronic hyperventilation (over-breathing) is a feature including: panic attacks, hay fever, rhinitis, COPD, snoring, sleep disturbances, perimenopausal anxiety and sinusitis.
